How it started
A few days ago, I watched this video from Book Roast. The creator of the briliant Orilium Readathon. If you don't know what the Orilium Readathon is, I advice you to just browse around Book Roast' Youtube Channel. But, research at your own risk! I put down a simple comment, not really thinking much of it. Untill this happened. I'd been called out. So what other choice did I have really?
How it's going
I decided to create an entirely new journal. Completely dedicated to this readathon. There is already so much that Gi (aka Book Roast) has created, that I feel pretty comfortable I'll be able to fill it up in the next couple of months, years,....
So then, the next question popped up. Where do I start? Do I go straight to the Spring Equinox? Or do I start out at the Novice Path? To me, there really was only one answer. If I wanted to start this whole thing over again, I was going to it the right way. All the way from the start. So, Novice Path, here I come!
My plan will be as followed :
Since there's already been a few readathons that have happened, I'm hoping to catch up by the time the next one goes live. Which should be in April. So, January will be focused on the Novice Path. February will be the Spring Equinox from last year. And then March, I'll be focused on the Autumn Equinox.
Now, there have also been smaller readathon challenges, such as the Gear Up and Old Favour Pass. But I think I'll let those ones go. I know you can add certain things to your character, such as a conduit, but I'll just add those on the pile if I have any free reading time left. I'll most likely have to read them this month, since the Novice Path only requires you to read 2 books minimum. Anyway, I'm rambling now.
Meet Ayla
For this readathon, you're supposed to make a character that you'll take to the Orilium Academy and who you will follow throughout this entire adventure. Honestly, this was the part I'd completely forgotten about. Not to mention the fact, that this was probably the reason why I felt I hadden really gotten the entire expierence out of this readathon. Well, not this time! Enter, Ayla.
I wrote a little bit about Ayla's backstory, but I didn't want this blog post to get too long. If you're interested, it's under here ;)
On the evening off the alignment of the three moons of Aeldia, a baby girl was found at one of the entrances to the Great Underworld Library. No one seemed to know how she got there or who she was. A few Skaimorn Whisps discovered the small bundle and collected two of the Iltyrian guards at once. The Iltyrians believed this was no coincidence and decided to raise the clearly human girl as one of their own. They desired the knowledge that observing one of the other people would hold. They left her with two of the most renowned scholars they could find, who decided to call her Ayla.
Ayla grew up underground, always wishing to see the stars. It almost felt like she was being called to the moons she was found under. Trying her best to study the way all her Iltyrians friends were, she tried to find answers in every book she could find. Who was she? Where did she come from? What was her purpose? She felt like she was meant for something bigger. Something better. So, when the school of Orilium decided to open it’s doors for the very first time, she decided to take a risk. Iltyrians, being convinced there was no knowledge that couldn’t be found in their tombes, didn’t take kindly to her decision. Feeling like she might risk hurting the feelings of the only people she called family, she left under the cover of nightfall. Leaving behind a single letter. Telling her family that she loved them, but if there was a chance, even the smallest one, for her to find out more about who she was and why she felt this affinity to the night sky, she should take it. She knew some of the higher members would be scared about all the secrets of Darkmeadow she would be taking with her. But all she could do was trust her instincts and hope that they would let her go and wouldn’t send a hunting party after her. Hopefully, the Novice Path would be quick and easy, so she could escape to Orilium, where they would not want to follow. For as much as they wanted their secrets kept, they didn’t like being away from their home for too long.
Not only did I create her backstory, as I mentioned earlies, I also created an entirely new notebook. This was the page I created about Ayla.
I decided to make it look like it was a journal entry. I might do more of these in the future, but I really liked how it turned out. It also gives me the opportunity to quickly remind myself who Ayla is. There's room to add little tidbits I find out about her along the way. I know her Guild logo will be added here at the end of the Novice Path!
I know I might not have done the best explaining of this whole thing, but I figured the videos from Gi will explain it a lot better than I ever will. So again, go check out her channel. She has an entire Orilium Readathon Playlist! If you are participating or thinking about joining, please do let me know!
I'll be keeping you posted on how this whole thing is going. Taking you through the entire journey with me. I'm really excited about it, as I'm sure you can tell. Please let me know if there's any information you'd like to know or things you'd like to see or read about in the future!
You can follow me on Instagram if you want a more day to day account of how my reading/journaling is going.
Hope to talk to you soon!
